The Royal Institute Girls’ School was set up at No. 163, Maya Avenue, Colombo 06, on the 15th of September 2008. This was in response to the growing demand among parents in the international school sector for an international school meant exclusively for girls which delivers excellent quality in academic as well as extra-curricular activities to students through a team of highly motivated and competent staff. The Maya Avenue branch boasts of excellent infrastructure facilities and consists of classes from Lower Nursery up until Ordinary Level.
From Nursery to Grade 2, the school has both, boys and girls. Once the students are promoted to Grade 3, the boys are transferred to the Havelock Town branch – which is a short distance away, while the girls continue their education at the Maya Avenue branch. Thus we ensure that from Grade 3 onwards, the school is exclusively for girls.
Like all other Royal Institute branch schools, the Maya Avenue branch provides high quality education from Nursery to Ordinary Level, and the Cambridge syllabus is followed. Students who wish to sit for the examinations in the National curriculum are taught by an expert panel of teachers with a sound academic background, committed towards providing quality education in English medium.
The school possesses the high-quality facilities including modern classrooms, a computer laboratory, and a library with a resource centre. This institute provides opportunities to its students not only to develop their knowledge but also to develop personality, leadership and life skills as it produces versatile students with knowledge, skills and authentic Sri Lankan values.
Apart from their academic work, students are given the opportunities and encouraged to take part in a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. These include public speaking programs, English literary circles, scrabble, and aesthetic activities such as art, music and dancing. The dancing troupe, band and choir of the Royal Institute Girls School at Maya Avenue have brought a lot of fame and glory with their outstanding aesthetic skills and talents at various events such as the annual Kala Ulela, Poson Bhakthi gee, Christmas Carols and other functions. As a school with students from various ethnic backgrounds, the Maya Avenue branch encourages religious and cultural harmony through various festivals and programmes including the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Vesak, Thaipongal, Ramazan, Christmas, etc. The students also engage in several sports activities and such as swimming, karate, badminton, basketball and yoga. The school provides access to all modern sports facilities. The efforts of the dedicated coaching staff have produced fruitful results at various sports events, including the Inter-international School Athletic meet that was organized by the International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL).
