Held on the 18th of October 2024, the highly anticipated Royal Institute Sports Meet was a day filled with excitement, athleticism, and school spirit, as students from five branches – Maharagama, Nugegoda, Havelock, Girls’ School, and Gampaha – came together to compete in a wide array of sporting events. The Maharagama branch emerged victorious, demonstrating their exceptional skills and teamwork across all competitions. The sports meet was graced by esteemed guests, including Chief Guest Mr. Usitha Pasindu, Chairman Mr. G.T. Bandara, and Academic Director Dr. Nirodha Bandara.
The event began with a symbolic gesture: the lighting of the Olympic torch, a proud moment that ignited the competitive spirit of the day. The day’s events featured intense competition and an impressive display of school pride, with each branch striving for the top spot in track and field events, relays, and other athletic activities.
The day’s highlight came near the end, featuring a grand march past, led by the Western Band. The participants marched in perfect unison, proudly representing their respective branches and creating a ceremonious conclusion to the event. Prior to this, the vibrant Eastern Band had taken the field with an impressive display, capturing the cultural essence of the school. Energetic and graceful dance performances also added flair to the occasion, bringing colour and excitement to the proceedings.
The Royal Institute Sports Meet 2024 was a resounding success, reflecting the school’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also physical development and sportsmanship.
