Ethical Learning and Valuing Diversity at Royal Institute International School

At Royal Institute International School (RI), we believe in the holistic development of the students. Beyond academic excellence, we prioritize strong ethical values and a deep appreciation for diversity, reflected in our comprehensive Ethics syllabus.

What virtues do we teach?

We teach virtues such as honesty, respect, responsibility and compassion. Our new addition to the syllabus, “The Theory of Happiness” module helps students understand that true happiness comes from contentment, positive relationships and contributing to others’ well-being. Students are assessed not only on academic performance, but also on behaviour and values to ensure that they develop a well-rounded character.

How do we make Ethics a practical subject?

To make Ethics practical, we emphasize experiential learning, where students apply ethical principles in real-life scenarios. Through role-playing, group discussions and community service projects students actively engage in understanding and practicing values like honesty, empathy and respect. This approach not only deepens their moral reasoning but also fosters a sense of responsibility and integrity in everyday actions.

How do we celebrate diversity?

We celebrate diverse cultures, beliefs and perspectives. Our curriculum includes lessons on diversity and inclusion, fostering global citizenship and respect for differences. Activities like cultural festival and classroom discussions help students appreciate different cultures, promoting empathy and educating prejudice.

How are we enhancing the Ethics syllabus?

We are excited to announce a comprehensive revision and review of our Ethics syllabus, set to be implemented from the next academic year. With a fresh focus on real-world applications, critical thinking and leadership development, Ethics will now be a core subject. These updates are designed to empower students with the moral compass and practical skills needed to excel in today’s complex world.

How do we integrate community service?

We plan to integrate community service projects into the syllabus, encouraging students to take an active role in their communities. These projects will help students develop a sense of social responsibility and provide them with opportunities to practice ethical principles in real-world contexts.
