The Literature in English students from Royal Institute Girls’ School embarked on an enriching educational visit to the Curado Art Gallery where they had the opportunity to explore a diverse collection of portraits by renowned Sri Lankan artists. This unique experience gave students an intimate glimpse into the country’s vibrant art scene while sharpening their analytical and interpretive skills.
Throughout the visit, students engaged in meaningful discussions with art experts who provided valuable insights into the cultural and historical contexts behind the art. These interactions not only enhanced the students’ understanding of the artworks on display but also refined their ability to ask insightful questions, enriching their academic journey.
The visit was designed to enhance their overall learning, merging the study of literature with visual art to offer a holistic educational approach. By analysing the techniques and themes of each portrait, students broadened their perspectives, fostering critical thinking and interpretative skills.
The hands-on nature of the trip enabled the students to thrive, strengthening their conversational abilities and perceptive capabilities. As they connected with both the art and the experts, they gained a deeper appreciation of the role that culture and history play in shaping artistic expression.
This visit to Curado Art Gallery not only contributed to the students’ academic development, but also ignited a passion for art and culture, encouraging them to continue exploring these fields.
